Democrat Dr. Cynthia “Cinde” Wirth has dedicated her career to advancing public education, promoting environmental sustainability and serving her community. Her deep Indiana roots and professional experience make her uniquely qualified to represent Indiana’s 6th Congressional District.

Lifelong Hoosier
A seventh-generation resident of Bartholomew County, Cinde shares Hoosier values and understands the challenges facing people across the 6th Congressional District.
A successful community business owner for more than 20 years, Cinde and her husband, Trent, have made their home and raised two children in Columbus. She is a proud union member (AFL-CIO/AFT) and experienced policy writer, bridging the gap often seen between working people and members of Congress.
Long-time Teacher and Scientist
For more than 10 years, Cinde taught biology and environmental science at Columbus Signature Academy. She served as an assistant instructor for underwater diving, research, mapping and exploration courses at IU and went on to develop education programs, including a marine ecology field school for teachers.
Cinde’s commitment to education and public service was recognized with the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship, which afforded her the opportunity to serve as a research consultant on Capitol Hill.
Experienced Policy Writer
From 2018-19, Cinde served as a science and education expert for the 115th and 116th U.S. House of Representatives. While in Washington, D.C., she contributed to policy development and gained firsthand knowledge of the legislative process while working in a bipartisan way to improve the lives of all Americans. Following previous congressional campaigns in 2022 and 2024, she remains committed to public service and she has the experience to get things done.

Education
A graduate of the University of Evansville (B.A. in biology and Spanish, 1992) and Indiana University M.A. anthropology, 2009), Cinde earned her Ph.D. in 2025 in educational policy and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education at Ball State University. During her doctoral studies, she spent time on the small Caribbean island of Bonaire where she gained deeper understanding of U.S. foreign policy implications.
